Another Great Cause!

Word up, people?!?!  Good morning!  As always, keeping my eye out for ya…I have a new and exciting good cause alert!  Being a lucky healthy (knock wood) sometimes athletic 🙂 chica, and talking with a good friend, Eamon (shout out!) from the Sporting Club, has raised my awareness to a very important cause.  I feel like we “healthy people” often take advantage of simple things such as being able to take a good deep breath.  So, I draw your attention to…

Camp AsthmaCadabra!

According to the American Lung Association,

Affecting more than six million children, asthma is the leading serious chronic illness among American kids. In addition to providing vital research support, the American Lung Association facilitates asthma-care partnerships involving school nurses and educational staff as well as physicians, families and Lung Association volunteers. Our Asthma Clinical Research Centers (ACRC) conduct large clinical trials that provide immediate and useful information for people who have asthma. Through our educational programs like Open Airways for Schools, we give children the tools they need to manage their asthma so that they can stay healthy in school and be ready to learn.

Partnering with the Max and Lorraine Foundation,

“established in 1993 by Mike Tracy in loving memory of his wife, Lorraine Button Tracy, and their 10 year old son, Max Tracy, who both lost their lives to asthma. The goal of the Foundation is to educate children and their families about asthma, and to help families who may be in need of asthma related medical assistance. The Fund helps support projects such as the Foundation’s first ever asthma summer camp in Luzerne County, Camp AsthmaCadabra, held at the YMCA’s Camp Kresge in White Have, Pennsylvania.”

Read a great article about the Camp here.

Anyway, besides bringing awareness, which is ALWAYS the first and most important step, you can help!  First, you can simply donate to the Foundation by clicking here.  Secondly, you can actually sponsor a camper…

Now in its 11th year, Camp AsthmaCadabra has been a great success involving hundreds of campers and volunteers. We can truly boast of having an outstanding group of volunteers who provide for the medical and emotional needs of each child. An infirmary is maintained around the clock and staffed by medical professionals who generously give of their time and expertise.

However, without the generous support of all our sponsors, camp would not be the success that it is. Camp AsthmaCadabra is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate community involvement and commitment to helping provide this experience to children with asthma. For more details, you may download the Sponsor Letter (PDF format) by clicking here.

Please help us continue our mission to provide this camping experience to a very special group of children. After you have read the Sponsor Letter, and if you have decided to become a sponsor, download the Sponsor Pledge Form (PDF format) by clicking here. Please return the completed form by March 20, 2009. Payment is not due until July 1, 2009. We thank you in advance for your consideration of this very special, worthwhile project.

I will be definitely sponsoring a child with my tax return.  I always try to do something worthy with it (and THEN for myself ;-))  and this year I have found the cause!  Join me!  Email me with any questions, comments, etc…  Have a great FRIDAY! wootwoot!
