This Broad RAN Broad!

That title is an homage to this race’s “shirt phrase

It read "This Broad Runs Broad" 😉

Anywhooo, let’s get to the recap!!!!  In one word, the race was AMAZING!  I loved it!  It was a fantastic experience.  I felt great and finished strong.  Sorry to toot my own horn, but I’m happy with it!

Here I am at the start line. To be honest, I wasn't feeling the race right when I woke up.

Yea, this morning I woke up NOT excited to run.  I felt stiff and tired!  But that all changed once the race began.  I felt so great today!  You know how some days, you’re not feeling it, I was glad today was not one of those days.

Mid-Race pic. Actually exactly mid-race (5 miles in)

So, I think I did a few good things…

1.  I used almost every hydrant (they acted as sprinklers) from mile 2 on.  It helped immensely with the heat.  I was truly “cool” 🙂

2.  I did not eat prior to the race as my stomach is my “achilles heel” and can cause me the most problems.  BUT I did drink almost an entire G2 (Grape of course-yumm).  I did not need water until about mile 4, drank a few sips of Gatorade around mile 6, had a life saver around mile 8 (that turned out to be a true “life saver” as it gave me a little burst of energy when I needed it and served as a mind distractor when I was concerned my toe nail was falling off-it actually was not, it was just chafing badly, and my hip hurt a bit)

3.  I brought my cell phone- I was able to text my Mom mid-way who was concerned about me running in the heat…oh Mom 😉  But I loved having i.  The belt held it well and only bounced a little bit but was ok when I rotated it to be above my behind

Funny blurry motion pic

Seeing City Hall was quite relieving!

So, I finished strong and then made my way back to meet my mom.  She parked at FDR park so the walking resumed 🙂  So, all in all a WONDERFUL experience!

So, I did not wear this Bondi Band but I repeated the excellent mantra to myself several times!

Here are the “official results...”

Did you run Broad Street?!? Boast post about it here (comment). Seriously!  Be proud!  Do tell!

Mizzu-NO or MIzzu-YES?

(Clever, huh?)

This is just one of the things that is running through my head regarding Broad Street.  Let me explain…I bought these amazing new MIzzuno sneakers at the Expo today when I was picking up my packet (I’m in the GRAY coral, by the way).

Also pictured (my other purchases): Wright anti blister socks (LOVE them), belt for my phone (awesome-will review soon), new Zensah compression sleeves, Bondi Band

Anyway, I have been going back and forth on weather or not to wear them to race tomorrow-they are new, and I have decided that I am going to go ahead and wear them.  They are WAY lighter and I think will subsequently be easier on my hips.  I will wear my sleeves to further protect my shins.  I plan to continue wearing my Brooks sneakers during training runs.  I LOVE BEING A RUNNER!  I LOVE actually considering myself a runner!  YAY!

Anywhooo I wanted to elaborate of some of the other items pictured above.  So the Bondi Band…I saw these on Caitlin’s blog and thought they were cute. When I saw them at the Expo, I picked out my own to try-I love a lil’ inspiration!

PS:  I saw this cute one I wanted to get Lindsay.

I was SO excited to be at the Expo!

2 Shirts!

gotta love an odd number!

Anyway, it was awesome especially because Husband came!  It was so fun!  One thing I’m a bit concerned about is the weather. It’s supposed to be really hot.  Look at the car thermometer today!

Granted, it "overreacts" 😉

Look for a race recap tomorrow!  Wish me luck!
