So I have been preparing this post for a while. I wanted to address two things as I return to full-time work this month and summer comes to a close. Here are the two things:
1. I am NOT a morning person, so my runs/any exercise must be performed AFTER work
2. When I just don’t’ have a lot of time (due to my crazy schedule) but would like to continue my life as is…
OK, so here goes…
I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON. “MOST” runners complete their runs before sunrise, and frankly before my eyes have thought to open. I simply hate the morning and kinda always have. BUT, I DID sign up for the Philadelphia Half Marathon in November, so I need my mileage. Yesterday was a perfect example of how I altered my workout to fit my physical and mental needs. I KNEW that I needed mileage. I had been traveling to Oregon (post coming soon) and needed to get back into my routine. Well, put it this way: I WAS TIRED and not feeling it after work. SO, I BARTERED WITH MYSELF; I promised myself that if I committed to 5 miles, I would take it easy on speed, and with that I was able to do my mileage (albeit a bit slower than usual) while keeping myself and body happy.
Right, so the point is: ALTER YOUR WORKOUT. If IT doesn’t work, YOU won’t work!
So needless to say, I was STARVING when I got home. This brings me to my next topic: TIME SAVERS…
I tend to keep healthy QUICK options on hand for dinner. For instance, last night I made Buitoni whole wheat tortelini (in the refrigerated section) and Perdue baked chicken cutlets. I also made a cucumber salad consisting of cucumbers and Whole Foods brand balsamic dressing.
For a week-night meal, it was YUM! Now, what do I do when I decide to invite a bunch of people over for a BBQ but I just don’t have a ton of time!??! It is ALL in the planning. See for yourself. First, I always try to plan out cooking times on my white board hanging in the kitchen. I can also write little notes to myself, as I tend to be forgetful at times 🙂
UPDATE: I have no idea where I was going with the above post, but I just published it anyway 😉 Sorry!
QUESTION: How do YOU prepare for company? (Especially when you don’t have time)
