Mixed Media Workout and Welcome Back!

First off, Look who’s baaaack!

Reunited and it feels so GOOD!

YAY!  If you all remember, my beloved white puffy Old Navy jacket that I got for QUITE the steal was stolen by an old friend.  BOO.  BUT, each door that closes offers an open door…that opened to a NEW (same price wootwoot), improved, LONGER (got it in a size Small- TALL this time) and CLEAN jacket!  yay! I am very excited to wear it!  So, my dear jacket, welcome back!

Speaking of Welcome Backs, yesterday I decided to try a “mixed media” workout (coined that term myself, clever, no?) instead of just running.  Several reasons for this:

1.  I’m a bit concerned about the shin that might be stress-fractured…so concerned that I refuse to get it x-rayed because I don’t want to know!  I know…bad idea- I can hear you all yelling at me through cyber-space.  I will go sometime soon.

2.  My arms and abs need a lil’ strengthening

3. I don’t want to bore of running

4.  I want my endurance to transfer across sports

So, yesterday, I did a 3-miler for speedwork. THEN, I went to the Club for an hour-long Yoga class.  I am definitely sore today but it was well worth it!  Wootwoot!  I had been practicing on my own a BIT after my runs but targeting specific muscles but this yoga class banged out the whole body.

When I got home, I was starving!  I had planned to do chicken tacos but Gordita-style (better pita plus Ranch-yum) but was craving B4D (Breakfast for Dinner) and the Husband wanted Chinese.  SO, I made the most amazing B4D EVER!  I used Arnold Sandwich thins (2 at 100 cals. a piece), dipped in egg beaters which I seasoned with cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice.  I made healthy hashbrowns on the side.

MMMM....now I just have to plan for those pancakes...or panqueques 😉 We made that word up when we were in Spain, assuming that is what they call pancakes

The whole thing was DELISH!  So delish that my camera ate some of it before it could take a picture!

French toast trial from Monday morning 😉

I really shouldn’t take credit for this genius healthy and quick french toast, as I saw the idea on Tina’s blog, www.carrotsncake.com. But, it was wonderful!  You MUST try it asap!

OK, enough for now, but check in later for another “mixed media” workout recap.  Today on the schedule… AQUA fit!  haha- should be fun!  I am trying a low-impact workout today, as my shins are sorta bothering me!  Toodles!

About that roller ball…

I had a great question from a very sweet reader,

“what is that roller ball??”

product image

Refering to the Garnier Fructis eye roller ball that I discussed in my recent Target post, this a great product.  It is an affordable and easy way to work on those “trouble areas” around the eyes. It is said to reduce puffiness as well as crows’s feet/age lines.  Hey guys, the big 3-0 is rapidly approaching…gotta be proactive!  Here is the “official” description of the product.  You can get these babies at any common drug store.  Now, I don’t have “before and after” pictures from my first brief stint with this great product, but I will be posting before and after pictures this time.  Basically, someone I knew and trusted stole my eye roller.  How redonk, right, well…it’s baaaack!

Eye roller on the right keeping company with my yummy Vitacraves!

SPEAKING of eyes, I MUST share a beauty tip with ya’ll or I just would not be doing it justice if I did not!  Ok, so I am not the biggest mascara fan. I mean I love the way it looks, but I am not the best at putting on or keeping it on!  It definitely does not contain itself to my lashes 😉  So, for many years now, I have been getting my lashes DYED with henna. It is all natural, very inexpensive, easy and fun!   I suggest getting it done at any salon around you that provides this service. It usually costs between 20 and 30 dollars but lasts about 2 months.  You can choose what color (I get black, but they have tinted blue, etc.). They put it on like mascara while you are laying down, and they leave it on for about 10 mins.  Then they take it off and here is what you get!

Freaky picture, but you get the point! PS: my nose is SOOO not that crooked lol.

I get mine done at AME salon and Spa in Wayne, PA. I LOVE it there.  I will do a full review one day soon.  In the Philadelphia area, you can get it done at Toppers Spa as well. If you are searching for more places, just ask them if they do “henna dye for the eyelashes.”  Anyway, definitely try it out!  It is PERFECT for the summer/pool- you can go completely without eye makeup and still look half awake!  Or, to “drama” it up, you can coat with mascara and the look is UNREAL!  Check it out. OK, toodles for now!

Yesterday was AWESOME!

So, as you read (https://upsanddownes.wordpress.com/2009/12/17/help-drowning-in-holiday-madness/) my schedule, it indicated that yesterday was quite busy…and boy it was!  BUT…SOOOOO productive and awesome!

BANGED.IT.OUT.

1.  Verizon wireless- OH HOW I LOVE THEE!  Wow, definitely NEVER thought i’d say that!  I went into the K of P store thinking it would be the usual- “it’s you not the phone” thing, but TIM at Verizon HOOKED IT UP!  My phone WAS actually messed up and they are sending me a new one!  NO need to re-read… yes, they are actually sending me a BRAND new bberry, it was NOT my fault (for once) AND the experience didn’t make me want to bang my head against the wall!  Wootwoot!

2. Onto Pier One I went!  So I quickly banged out gifts for Husband’s 3 secretaries (they are not all his but are all equally helpful ;-)) AND some REALLY cute stocking stuffers

Oh, Whole Foods, what you do to me…

I just LOVE Whole Foods and the dangerous awesome thing is that it is around the corner from chez Downes!  HAHA!  Anyway, tonight I went for some goodies for dinner- we ended up having such a yummy dinner (and all from Whole Foods)…jasmine rice, chicken simmered in a masala sauce for a looong time (until it was sooo tender), baby bellas and peas.  YUM.

So some random Whole Foods thoughts…

                                                                                                    I wish I loved (but dont)…

It always looks and smells so yummy, though!

                                                                                                …and DO love (but wish i didn’t)

If you don't know what it is, don't worry about it...it's embarassing

Looked SOOOO yummy (“naturally flavored” gummy bears in cool flavors like goji berry)…until I saw the price tag- that glass jar—-40 bocks!  woah.  nope.  not that much, i don’t like ’em…

And I LOVE Late July (both the products, like those below AND the time of year!)

yumyums!

Anyway, the trip night was awesome!  Hope yours was too!  What is YOUR favorite Whole Food or like-store (Trader Joe’s etc.) product????

My review of the Snuggie

OK, so I admit it, I’m a brat.  I could not wait for Santa to bring me a Snuggie…not even the “Hanukah Santa.”  Listen, people, don’t judge.  I wanted to try to hang out downstairs more with the Husband and the big TV where it is normally too cold for me (hence the Snuggie).  Anyway, I broke down and bought myself one at during a previous Target run, of which I did NOT mention on the blog…cause I was embarassed I caved for the Snuggie.  You don’t understand, I’m always cold!

Excuse the bad pic and the purple bruise on my lip- I had to get something lasered yesterday…hurts!  😦

Anyway, the Sunggie is just OK.  It is fine for sitting and watching TV (and possible even sipping a drink) as the commercial implies, but tha tis really ALL you can do with it.  And let’s just say I’m not very good at just sitting and watching TV sipping a drink for an extended period of time…Anyway, the result of doing…pretty much anything else is:

The thing is CONSTANTLY slipping off.  Anyway, how cute does Osc look?  He just got groomed!

He’s smiling for you

Exhausting day, no?

I hate when his eyes come out like that in pics…is he is a devilish dog though sometimes!  😉

Back to the Snuggie, it does keep you warm, just don’t expect to be able to move function well with it.  Scale of 1-10?  Ehhhh….just get. it.  It’s less than 20 bucks at Target!  OK, toodles!

Damn you, H & M!

Seriously, how do a series of errands end up in an unnecessary awesome mini-spree at H & M?!?!  DIVINE INTERVENTION!  Woohoo!  Anyway, today after work I went to get a friend a gift card to a lovely spa, got a gift for Ian’s my little cousin Saba… (she reads the blog so I will just show the packaging)- my heart beats a little faster at the sight of that Tiffany blue!  Shout out to girlfriend who is turning 21 this weekend!  I am actually going to Atlanta for this shindig and cannot wait!  Ian’s aunt told me to “take lots of pictures.”  Really, Ger-as if you should expect any less from me! 🙂  People get annoyed at my camera-readiness at times!  hahah

OK, back to the subject at hand.  Then I went to Doggie Style, the best doggie boutique in Philly-they have numerous locations-to get Oscar his “after dinner treat.”  Everynight after he eats his din-din, he expects to get a few minutes of chewing on this…it is about 3 feet long for real!

So rediculous, but boy was he a happy camper when he saw Mama got him a new treat!

See- he is SO smiling for the camera!  OK, moving on, I then went to H & M just to CHECK OUT their selection of eternity scarves (suggested highly by my girl Lisa at www.pamperedwithpaige.com) and this is where the “disaster” began!  i just wanted one…And left with 4.  Yup, you heard right.  Four.  See:

This last one is the one I’m wearing today…And all together now:

Ok, so I realize they look like a mound of yarn in these pictures, but these scarves are the BOMB!  Love them!  We realized they also have decoy names and come in the name of “infinity scarves, eternity scarves or collars.”  Whatever.  I call them awesome.

I totally showed that bag who was the boss!

So, I ALSO got my delivery of my two coats for 60 bucks (30 dollars EACH!) from Old Navy!  I am wearing the white puffy one today due to the disgusting rain.

So yesterday also included a 4-miler, on the treadmill.  I HAVE to give a shout out to my girl Lindsay from www.goodiesgalore.wordpress.com who was VERY convinced that the running outside was FAR better than th treadmill.  Yesterday, I kinda was agreeing with her.  My knees were killing me, and this is usually not an area of injury for me.  Point is, maybe you are right, Lindz!  After that I took a lovely shower and used Philosophy’s belgian waffle body wash..yummmm! I didn’t want to get out!

Love it!  I also encountered an issue that I need help with.  I currently use Aveda’s volumizing shampoo becuase when my hair was longer, that is what I needed.  Now that it is short, I think I am in need of a new shampoo.  WHAT SHAMPOO DO YOU USE?  Please comment and let me know, or email me at jessdownes@yahoo.com  ok, outtie for now!  Enjoy your Thursday!

Poor Santa is getting mixed signals!

haha!  Poor Santa!  I told him yesterday that I DEF want a new Northface coat (the kind that makes you like a cocoon) that goes down to the ankle.  Great recess duty coat and for people like me that are ALWAYS cold.  I decided the Triple C Jacket would work for me- so expensive though (let’s just say that the “free shipping on orders over $200 would certainly apply).

WORD.  So anyway, browsin’ OldNavy.com today, as “stuff and save” is officially on (they have raised the bar from 20% off to 30%- waht a disaster for shop-a-holics like me!)  Well, I ended up getting not one but TWO coats for less than 60 bucks!

AND…

In those colors…done and done.

Sorry Santa, it looks a Garmin might be the best bet 😉  Husband Santa doesn’t like Old Navy anywhooooo.
